Morning! Happy New week, Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:
1.Uche Secondus has emerged National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Secondus was declared winner after polling over 2000 votes at the party’s convention in Abuja. Result was announced in the early hours of Sunday. Meanwhile, Secondus’ close contender, Prof. Tunde Adeniran garnered 230 votes. While Daar Communications Ltd founder, Raymond Dokpesi got 66 votes, Taoheed Adedoja had no vote. Umar Ibrahim has equally emerged winner of the National Secretary of the party, while the Deputy National Secretary went to Senator Gamawa Babawo Garba.
2. Alhaji Kabir Umar, the Emir of Katagum Emirate in Bauchi State, is dead. This was announced Saturday night in a statement by the state governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar. Survived by 49 children, the Emir will be interred on Sunday(today)
3. The Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has announced that Nigeria will face Poland in a pre-World Cup friendly match on March 23, 2018. The match will hold in Wroclaw or the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów.
4. Two of the candidates who took part in the chairmanship election at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convention, Professor Tunde Adeniran and Chief Raymond Dokpesi have rejected the result of the election. They separately declared their rejection on the basis of the circulation of a unity list among the delegates.
5. Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President, on Saturday called for unification of the party, ahead of 2019. He said the PDP must unite as a party to secure the trust of Nigerians because under the APC, Nigeria is not working. He said this while addressing delegates at the party’s national elective convention at the Eagles Square in Abuja on Saturday.
6. The House of Representatives has said it will take a decisive action against former President, Goodluck Jonathan over his refusal to appear before it regarding his involvement in the Malabu oil deal. Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Justice and member representing Asa/Ilorin-West Federal Constituency of Kwara State, Razak Atunwa, said Jonathan had not even sent a reply to the invitation extended to him.
7. Mr Bashir Ahmad, an aide to Sen. Shehu Sani on Youth Matters has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen. Sani, who disclosed this via his facebook page said Ahmad, 45, was kidnapped on Friday in Tudun Wada Area of Kaduna South, Kaduna State. According to him, the victim had some weeks ago reported to the police that some unknown gunmen had visited his residence in search of him.
8. PDP caucus in the House of Representatives, on Saturday, stated that President Buhari was a major beneficiary of funds allegedly looted by PDP leaders. The Deputy Minority Whip of the House, Mrs. Binta Bello, who spoke for the caucus, said that Buhari should apologise to Nigerians for his failure to fulfil his electoral promises.
9. The Nigeria Labour Congress has condemned the scarcity of petroleum products across the country. It described the development as an act of cruelty and sabotage from which a privileged few are benefiting. According the the NLC president, Ayuba Wabba, no reason is good enough to justify the current fuel situation across the country.
10. The Nigerian Army has denied social media reports that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai, was wounded by Boko Haram terrorists in an ambush. The Army in a statement said there was no recent ambush on its troops, let alone on Burutai.
